Who’s in the SU Team? How does it work?

The SU Team is made up of:

  • 2 sabbatical Officers: the President and the Vice President. These roles are full-time, and undertaken by students either right after they graduate, or as an interruption of their studies.

  • 4 non-sabbatical Officers: the Student Health Officer, Events Officer, Societies Officer, and Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) Officer. These roles are undertaken by students concurrently with their studies.

  • 7 SU Reps, one for each of the following disciplines: Dance, Drama, Production, Film, Music Performance & Composition, Teaching & Education, and Research. These roles are also undertaken by students.

All members of the SU Team are elected by students during SU General Elections, which take place every year in April or May.

  • Ken Fairbrother

    PRESIDENT

    I'm just Ken.

But I also have the pleasure of being your SU President for this year! I studied Violin at RCS and my favorite moments were definitely being part of the MT production of Sweeney Todd and performing with Natasha Beddingfield. This is my second and final year in this role so let’s hope it’s a good one! An interesting fact about me is that I've flown a plane!

You can contact me at SUPresident@rcs.ac.uk.

  • Ulysse Tonnelé-Verjus

    VICE PRESIDENT

Hi everyone! My name is Ulysse, and before taking up this role, I was a pianist and composer in BEd for three years. Outside of music thingies, I love the sun, to get lost on Wikipedia, cook, do activism, play board games, learn things and teach things :)

You can contact me at SUVicePresident@rcs.ac.uk.

  • Noah Scott

EQUALITY, DIVERSITY & INCLUSION OFFICER (EDI)

Heya, I'm Noah and I'm in my third year, studying piano on the Traditional Music course. When I'm not practising I love to play games (board games, card games...) and meet people. I also like sports and spending time with my family. I think pineapple tastes great on pizza!!!!!!

You can contact me at SUedi@rcs.ac.uk.

  • Sophie Smart

    SOCIETIES OFFICER

Hi I’m Sophie, I’m a third year BMus studying the Tuba. When I’m not in RCS practicing or being the SU Societies Officer, I spend my spare time swimming and paddleboarding!

You can contact me at SUSocieties@rcs.ac.uk.

  • Morven Warren-McArdle

    STUDENT HEALTH OFFICER

My name is Morven and I’m the Student Health Officer for the SU. I just graduated in 2023 from my undergraduate in classical piano performance, and I am now doing continued education whilst I figure out what I’m doing with my career! I am an avid songwriter and composer and my outside-of-music activities include lots of climbing, cooking and weird cocktail recipes.

You can contact me at SUHealth@rcs.ac.uk.

  • Nathan Morris

    EVENTS OFFICER

My name is Nathan and I am the Events Officer! I am a third-year musical theatre student and play the alto saxophone. I love being in nature: hiking, camping and wild swimming, enjoy playing sports and discovering new pubs or having a takeaway!

You can contact me at SUEvents@rcs.ac.uk.

What do we do?

Overall, our role is to make your student life as great as possible.

We do this in a variety of different ways, the main ones being:

  • Always being here for you so you can talk to us and we can work with staff to make your education as good as can be, address the issues you might be facing, and support you at all times

  • Organising events during Freshers’ Week and throughout the year

  • Helping you join and create Societies so you can meet people like you (and different from you!)

  • And so much more! If you want to learn more about some of the things we’ve been up to recently, check out our Latest News section here

Who are the SU Reps?

SU reps attend the monthly SU Council Meetings, where they hear an update from the SU Executive (comprised of the President, Vice President and four SU Officers). The SU Reps then give their own update around the discipline they represent (what has been going well, not so well, issues that may have arisen, etc.). SU Council members take decisions together on important matters, such as constitutional changes (the Constitution is the text which describes how the SU functions, you can find it below), Freshers’ Week, Summer Ball, etc.

SU Reps are in place for each of the following disciplines, for 2023-24, they are:

  • Dance – Rose Barford, SUDanceRep@rcs.ac.uk

  • Drama (Acting, Directing, Musical Theatre, and CPP) – Matthew Schwarz, SUDramaRep@rcs.ac.uk

  • Production – Jordan Alsoudani, SUProductionRep@rcs.ac.uk

  • Film – Caitlin Jenkins, SUFilm@rcs.ac.uk

  • Music Performance & Composition – Masha Zhuravlova, SUMusic@rcs.ac.uk

  • Teaching & Education – Anya Galloway, SUEducation@rcs.ac.uk

  • Research – Kenneth Tay, SUResearchRep@rcs.ac.uk

So who are the Programme Reps?

On top of SU Reps, there is one (or two in some cases) Programme Rep for each year group in each programme across the Conservatoire. They attend the termly Programme Committee meetings along with their Head of Programme and other staff members to raise issues, give feedback, propose improvements, and participate in discussions relevant to their programmes. A list of our student Programme Reps for 2023-2024 can be found here
